Metrical Friday: ‘There was a little girl’

‘There was a little girl’
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

     There was a little girl,
     Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
     When she was good,
     She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

    I love that rhyme. Nothing to do with fatherhood but it just reminded me of another favourite rhyme I’d all but forgotten…

    The rain it raineth on the just
    And also on the unjust fella;
    But chiefly on the just, because
    The unjust steals the just’s umbrella.

    Actually, with the amount of toy stealing crises I’m resolving at the moment , maybe it does have something to do with fatherhood after all.
